TREND/I WANT: Chunky Sandals

Summer seems to have finally hit London, and this good weather's been putting me in the mood to shop for summer pieces, including sandals. Being very short, I'm always on the look out for chunky shoes that will give me the height without the pain, and so these 5 sandals caught my eye. And it seems that since Vagabond has become popular, all the shops have started selling chunky boots and sandals, which is always a plus for me!

Yes, I do realise that most of the sandals I've chosen are black, but black's the most versatile so you'll be able to pair them with more outfits and get your moneys worth out of them. They won't get dirty as easily as white sandals either. And hey, I have put in a colour option as well so it's not all monochrome.

Unfortunately, I'm saving my money for shopping in Korea so I won't be buying anything for now, but hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll be able to buy some similar sandals in Korea (and probably/hopefully for a fraction of the price!).

TREND: Tartan

Recently I've been seeing tartan everywhere: both in stores and on the streets, and I've heard that it's going to be the hot new trend for AW13.

If you think this pattern's too loud/bold to pull off, try going for more subdued colours, such as the monochromatic shorts or blue and green tartan rather than the bright red. Or, alternatively, you could add in pops of tartan to your outfit via accessories such as the hair scrunchies or umbrella (perfect for the rainy UK). 

When pairing tartan, I find that it goes especially well with leather, whether it be leather jackets, skirts, or boots.

TREND: Dungarees/Pinafores

I've wanted some dungarees for the longest time but me being picky and stingey, I never found the perfect pair. But recently I bought 3 pairs from the East End Thrift Store and I'm slowly becoming obsessed with them. I'm also still on the lookout for some cheap denim pinafores/skirt dungarees as well. Both pinafores and dungarees seem to be cropping up in all the highstreet stores:

I can't wait for summer so I can wear them with little crop tops but for now, I've been layering jumpers under them. I'll try and post some sets later this week on how I would style dungarees/pinafores. But for now, here are some inspiration posts for styling them:

TREND: Holographic

The space trend has been all over the runway for A/W 2012 but I've got to say my favourite sub trend has to be the holographic trend.

I've put together a few items I've seen following the holographic trend by highstreet brands and I would say they're all pretty much quite reasonably priced:

I really want a pair of holographic skinny jeans, but if that's too flashy for you, you could always go with more subtle accents such as holographic accessories or nail polish or wear them on a night out instead of during the day. I think I'm generally obsessed with any flashy print/pattern and the holographic trend is above perfection.

SPRING TRENDS: colour blocking

Colour blocking was on trend last year and it's back again this spring.

*For those who don't know what colour blocking is, it's when you wear 2+ solid blocks of colour in your outfit - pretty self explanatory.

 I'm not the most confident with wearing bright colours but I found a way of getting used to this trend and easing it into spring from winter. Wearing darker blocks of colour is a less obvious, more subtle way of colour blocking your outfits and here is an example that I wore on Monday:

1) Maroon jumper with zips on the arm seams from my uncle's shop in Korea.
2) Dark teal bobble beret from Accessorize.
3) Black brogue ankle boots from Newlook.
4) Dark teal bodycon skirt from H&M and the colour of it almost perfectly matches my hat.
5) Mustard ankle socks - my mum's. I wear these over my tights with about an inch poking over the top of my boots. These socks are really what completes my colour blocking outfit.
6) Thick grey tights from Primark.
7) Navy scarf from Burberry.

The colours I went for in my outfit were darker shades of primary colours but you can go for any combination of colours. I think Jenn from clothesencounters actually did a video on colour blocking with primary colours.


*BTW I didn't steal the idea from Jenn, it was a coincidence actually that I was using primary colours at all and I thought I might make a post on it since I already had the outfit planned out.
